I have had the flu for about a week now, it is getting really bad… I am 18 and have asthma and was a steady smoker until early May. With this flu I cant do anything!
-My body aches
-My nose is stuffy
-I have a headache
-I cant sleep
-I cant breathe
and worse of all
-I am coughing up flem (phlegm) sorry about smelling? It is thick and white and sometimes pinkish-red.

anyway does this sound serious? I cant breathe and am taking all of my puffers; should I go to the duty doctor? what should i do? what are remedies to help me breathe?

you need to go to the doctor. especially with the swine flu making its way around the world, better safe than sorry!

What are the beginning signs of the stomach flu?

How do you know if you will start getting the stomach flu? Hopefully I am not because I leave to go on spring break in a couple of days and that would REALLY suck. So what are the beginnig signs. Thank you so much to all those that help.

I have it right now, so the day before or the night before your going to feel like burping or your stomach is very hard. A fever, high or moderate will be presence. Also when you have it, your going to vomit and have Diarrhea at the same time. Your are going to feel very weak, have a serious headache. Also your are going to shiver at times (sometimes so bad that you wont be able to stop it), and sweat so much sometimes. Your body will hurt, and your are going to feel tired and drowsy.

I am a 28 year old female and I don’ t think I ever had the flu. A friend says I might have had it and thought it was a cold. How does the common cold differ from the flu? What are the symptoms of the flu?

david covered most of the different symptoms ,fevers, Sickness , are some of the differences, another is every Bone in you body aches, ive just spoken to my doctor on phone as i have a really bad strain of flu right now and have developed a serious lung infection and am having difficulty breathing, fevers, been seeing visual distortions and everything, also was coughing and chucking up for about 48 hours.

Another bad sign is that i wasnt able to pee for the first 3 days, it didnt matter how much water i drank and kept down, i was that dehydrated.

You know when you have the proper flu, on tuesday, i wasn’t able to walk without snacking my head into wall or tripping over stuff, i was almost incapacitated and drifting in and out of consciousness.

Doctors talk about a £10 dollar/pound note test, they say if u drop a note in front of someone with flu they wont be able to pick it up, but as i’m a Scotsman, i would need to have 2 broken arms to stop me picking up the note.

They tell u theres no treatment, but i was having fevers and coughing till threw up even this morning, doctor was about as usefull as a used peice of toilet tissue, so i made up my own meds, have stopped couching, managed to drink 4 litres of water and even eat and i havent thrown up since i took the mix.

If someone has swine flu and has been in a vehicle, can it be passed on to others?

We tow cars. If a customer has swine flu, and we get in their car to tow it, can we get swine flu? Do the germs dissipate after a certain amount of time? If they sneeze and get snot on the wheel, will the germs be gone when the snot dries.

Yes you can.
Practicing frequent handwashing, not touching the eyes,etc without washing the hands first, is said to help cut down on the risk of passing the virus from your hands to the eyes or mouth.

How much does a flu jab cost in the UK, for someone who is not in the high risk category?

I am thinking of taking it, but my doctor’s surgery doesn’t hand them out to non high-risk people. But my colleague got his flu jab for free at his doctor’s even though he’s not high risk, so obviously practices differ from surgery to surgery. Just wondering how much it might cost me to have the jab if I had to pay?

I’m guessing it depends on which pharmacy you get it done in.

I don’t think I can improve on the previous answer as concerns the descriptive differences between H1N1 (Swine Flu) and seasonal influenza. Agree, separate vaccinations are needed for protection against both forms of flu.

There are some other differences you should be aware of. H1N1 has circulated at high levels during the summer months, which is unusual for influenza, and the majority of serious illness, complications and deaths has occurred in persons under the age of 65.

H1N1 is the predominant flu in circulation across much of the world. H1N1 has practically crowded out seasonal influenza. Hence, it may be more important to get the H1N1 vaccination first. For some additional background, you might also use:

What’s the difference between "man flu" and "swine flu"?

I think I have swine flu, my head is sore, I have a sore through, my nose is runny and my bones are sore… I told my mum and she said I will be ok and its not swine flu, I told my girlfriend and she laughed and said its only man flu. I think its swine flu, how do I tell the difference?

The swine flu seems to involve having a very high temperature as opposed to the normal seasonal flu. Not even some of the doctors know the difference between the two other than the high fever.

Is it possible to spread the flu from getting a vaccine?

I recently received an H1N1 Swine Flu vaccine shot, and started having mild symptoms such as fever and congestion. However I am not coughing or sneezing or anything like that. Can someone who accidentally drank from my cup now catch swine flu? I understand that the Shot form of the vaccine does not carry the live virus, so it shouldn’t be able to spread. Am I correct?

You are correct. The viruses in the flu shot are killed (inactivated), so you cannot get the flu from a flu shot. However, some minor side effects that could occur are:
Soreness, redness, or swelling where the shot was given
Fever (low grade)
Aches
If these problems occur, they begin soon after the shot, are usually mild, and usually last 1 to 2 days. Almost all people who receive influenza vaccine have no serious problems from it. However, on rare occasions, flu vaccination can cause serious problems, such as severe allergic reactions.

Another thing to consider is that 2 weeks after vaccination, antibodies that provide protection against 2009 H1N1 influenza virus infection will develop in the body. You may have received the vaccine too late. Furthermore the 2009 H1N1 vaccine will not protect against seasonal influenza viruses. It could be that?

Is there any Scientific proof that the flu shot works and will prevent the flu?

My friend is a doctor and says that it doesn’t matter if you get the flu shot or not doesn’t’ work. He says build your immune system and you will be better off.

How can you tell the difference between swine flu and the regular seasonal flu?

So I’m feeling super sick, and I know it’s either the flu or the swine flu, and my question is how do I know which one it is? Of course, I know there’s a not a significant difference between either, and either one will suck just as much as the other. I’m just curious, thanks!

I found out that there is a difference. I’ve have both the swine and the regular flu. Infact, I currently I have swine flu again.
With swine flu, you can’t move all that well. I actually have to get my Mom to come help me around. The regular flu, you can move, but, it just really hurts.
The only way, though, to truly know is to get tested.
